Abstract:

The extensive power networks are considered as the large-scale systems due to their structures. Therefore, using proper architecture to control them is important. Although the performance of the centralized architecture is admissible but it is not practical due to computational complexity. When there are the strong interactions between the subsystems, using the decentralized architecture is not suited. Therefore, application of the cooperatively distributed architecture can be an appropriate solution to achieve the desired performance concerning the related conditions. Also, one of the suited control techniques to control the frequency of power networks is MPC strategy. In this paper, the performance of the centralized MPC and cooperatively distributed MPC is compared with each other and with classical AGC method by simulation of a multi-area power network in the presence of the disturbance. Also, the control methods are investigated more accurately than the specified previous studied methods by changing the relevant parameters and choosing more strictly the conditions. Moreover, the outperformance of the MPC methods to traditional one and the centralized to distributed MPC is shown by using the new indices, but the cooperatively distributed MPC is considered as a suited option to control power networks due to its appropriate specifications
