Abstract:
Risk assessment is a rational way to determine the quantitative and qualitative measure of hazards and potential consequences of accidents on people, equipment and the environment. Risk assessment is usually done by two methods, quantitative and qualitative. Today, more than 70 different qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods exist in the world and for various underground structures due to their application, different risk assessment methods is used. In this paper, Major risk of underground oil storage in unlined rock caverns includes three risk types: oil leakage risk, ground subsidence Risk and cavern failure risk. Results have showed that these accidents are caused by factors of many types, such as technical factors, human factors, natural factors, social factors, and etc. In addition, based on different loss categories, the risk loss associated with hydrocarbon storage caverns can be divided into three types: economic loss, casualties and environmental impact. Based on mechanical properties of rock and interlayers, functional requirements of the storage cavern, design and construction processes, four aspects of the basic major risk factors of oil storage rock caverns are analyzed: technical risk, human risk, natural risk and social risk.
