Abstract:
In this research high energy ball milling followed by annealing was performed on a mixture of Al2O3 and CaO, XRay diffraction OXRD) measurments showed that no calcium aluminate is formed during ball milling even after 100 h. Annealing the powder mixture, milled for different times, in 900,1000,1200 °C showed that the formation of the main phase, CaAl2O, started at 1000 °C after 2h. Depending on milling time, by increasing the annealing temperature, the amount of CaAl2O4 increased and also secondary phases such as CaAl4O7 and Ca2Al4O3 appeared. The average grain size of products measured by Scherrer s equation, was in nanometric range.
