In this study, isophetalicacid-zirconium (TV) nano composite has been prepared from zirconylnitrate dehydrate and potassium iodide, with isophetalic acid as a ligand, via sonochemical method in ethylene glycol and methanol as solvents. Tetragonal ZrO, was formed from mentioned combination, through the calcinations at air atmosphere. Characterization of nano composite was carried out using element analysis; FT-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermal analysis (TG/DTA). The crystalline tetragonal ZrO, with different particle sizes have been produced by thermal decomposition of isophetalicacid-zirconium (TV) nano composite as precursors. ZrO, nano structures were characterized by FT-IR, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, The results showed that, pure zirconia with particle size about 46 mm was obtained in which methanol has been used as solvent during the reaction but particle size was significantly reduced to about 20 nm, when ethylene glycol used as solvent during formation of the nano composite isophetalicacid-zirconium(IV) as precursor and both of them had tetragonal structure. Also the nano particles size in hydrothermal method, with only methanol as a solvent, was 54 m.
