Abstract:

In this present research, TiB-Al2O nanocomposite was fabricated by self-propagating hightemperature synthesis (SHS) of mechanically activated powders. HBO, TiO, and Al as starting materials were mechanically activated for 1, 3, 6 and 9 h then pressed to form pellets. Green compacts were placed in a tube furnace with argon atmosphere, for synthesis. The prepared samples were studied by XRD, SEM analytical techniques. According to the XRD patterns of synthesized samples after combustion synthesis showed that the TiB2-Al2O3 nanocomposite has been successfully fabricated by thermal explosion mode of combustion synthesis in furnace. Also, it was found that, 6 h is the optimum time for mechanical activation. On the other hand, the results indicate that increasing milling time up to 9 h had no significant effect other than refining the crystallite sizes of the components specially TiB2.
