Abstract:

In this research, the effect of different parameters such as water content, stabilizer and solvent type, as the material variables, and aging time, as the process variable, has been studied on the formation and properties of ZnO nanocrystalline powder synthesized via sol-gel method. In order to investigate the effects of water content and stabilizer type, various sols with different molar ratios of water and triethylamine to Zn was prepared in different solvents of methanol, ethanol and 1- propanol. Asprepared sols were aged for 1, 2 and 5 days and then dried at 100°C and finally calcined at 500°C for one hour. The structure and the crystallization behavior of the nanopowders have been investigated using X-Ray diffraction (XRD) method and the results confirmed the formation of ZnO hexagonal wurtzite. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to demonstrate the chemical bonds and possible reactions in sol. The FTIR spectra indicated existence of O-Hand C=O bonds in addition to Zn-O bonds which are referred to the organic complexes that existed and formed during the aging time. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) was carried out to define morphological aspects of ZnO nanoparticles. It was found that particle size of ZnO is less than 60 nm. The results showed that not only the aging time but also the stabilizer content has more influential effect compare to water content on properties of ZnO nanoparticles. Keywords:
