Abstract:

In this work, Zinc ferrite nanoparticles were prepared by wet chemical co-precipitation method using NaOH solution as precipitating agent. Fe and Zn chloride aqueous solutions and the NaOH solution were added drop wise from two separate burettes into a reaction vessel containing 100mL of distilled water heated at 60°C. Then the resultant precipitates obtained after 2 hours aging washed and dried. The powders were characterized using X-ray diffractometery (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FSEM) and vibrating sample magnetometery (VSM) techniques. The influence of the precipitating agent/ferric ions molar ratio on the formation of zinc ferrite was investigated. The results showed that at the ratios of 7.5, the single phase zinc ferrite was formed with the crystallite size of 9 mm. The Magnetic measurements also showed that the prepared zinc ferrite powders were superparamagnet.
