Identifying Quality of Life Indicators in Urban Neighborhoods

Over the past few decades, the concept of quality of life (QoL) has developed a key issue that effects on various dimensions of individual and group life. Recently the quality of life has become a commonly used concept and is showing growing significance in social, cultural and economic issues. It determines social welfare and life satisfaction of individual home and city. Urban quality of life is usually measured by indicators using surveys of citizens’ perceptions, experiences, evaluations and satisfaction. One of the main goals of urban planners and designers is to create urban areas that all citizens have easy access to different services. The main purpose of this study was to use available literature to develop a set of indicators of quality of life in urban neighborhoods.The results revealed that there are considerable differences between objective and subjective measuring of urban quality of life in an urban space. Therefore urban designers cannot rely only on the results of objective measuring to understand such spaces for planning. If so, their attitudes towards urban spaces could not be an appropriate guide for explaining the quality of life for urban residents.
