In this paper, a transient analysis for singleconductor overhead line terminated to arrester using genetic algorithm is carried out. Since the analysis is in the frequency domain, lossy ground effect can be included easily. The achieved results shows that in comparison with other studies disregarding this effect, lossy ground plays an important role in peak value and rise time of transient voltage across arrester. Moreover, the proposed approach is numerically efficient
