Abstract:

With advent of new technologies in manufacturing of electrical and mechanical parts, new structures are created in micro scales which lead to the development of micro robots. These new robots are applied for micrometer or millimeter manipulations and consider to its application, some different types are individually proposed in the previous researches. This paper illustrates a comprehensive overview on various actuators in this context and presents a selection methodology due to the characteristics of each actuator. In general, the necessary characteristics of a micro robot for certain axis, like the maximal forces, the agility and the precision have major differences related to ones of the other axis. Many distinguish works have been performed on the development of adequate actuators for micro manipulation. Micro robot design procedure obliges a micro actuator archiving with the principal characteristics. To this purpose, this article presents a new analytical description of the actuators related to micro robotics which provides a complete selection table with practical information for the designers.
