Abstract:

In this research, the material properties obtained fromexperimental stress-strain diagrams are used to investigatethe buckling behavior of the Tibia and Fibula bonessubjected to axial load, applying the Finite Element Method. While the experimental tests performed by authors show thatthe elastic modulus varies through the length of these bones,in most analysis represented in literature search, the elasticmodulus is assumed to be constant. Since, the elasticmodulus has significant effect on critical buckling load, twodifferent methods are used in Finite Element Modelling ofthem to obtain the effect of elastic modulus variationthrough the length of the Tibia and Fibula bones. In firstmethod, a constant elastic modulus is applied to the FEmodel. In second method variable elastic modulus is appliedto the same model. The axial compressive deformations andcritical buckling loads obtained for each bone applying bothmodels are obtained and compared with each other.
