Abstract:
Due to variations in damage mechanisms in micro scale, the behavior of fiber-reinforced composites is nonlinear and difficult to model. This complexity makes the computational cost much higher than that of general homogeneousmaterials. To make use of computationaladvantages, homogenization method is applied to the micro-scale model in order to minimize the cost at the expense of detail of local microscale phenomena. In this paper, the effectivestiffness is calculated using homogenization ofelastic behavior. In this case, thehomogenization method was applied to the representative volume element (RVE) torepresent elastic behavior. The damage modesfor the RVE considered as fiber-matrix debonding and matrix cracking. The main purpose of applying the uncertainty analysis is to see how the uncertainty inmechanical properties propagates to the macrobehavior of the entire composites. Effect ofuncertainty in some properties can be neglected from the macro-scale behavior point of view, while others can result in amplification or decrease of the uncertainty in macro-scale behavior.
