Abstract:

Reservoir productivity enhancement is one of the most interests to petroleum engineers. This is due to the importance of immobile trapped oil volume, i.e. residual and bypassed oil, even after some Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) procedures. Among these procedures, surface-active agents are very efficient. The surfactants affect wettability and Inter Facial Tension (IFT) that leads to increase microscopic efficiency and Recovery Factor (RF).This study intends to investigate the flooding effects of Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (SDS) on RF variations, based on laboratory experiments of one of Iranian oil reservoirs. For this purpose, sand pack system is utilized to implement flooding experiments. First in the testing procedures, the advantage of SDS flooding than water flooding has been studied. Then, the influence of temperature on the RF results of SDS flooding has been examined. More in this study, we have concentrated on the effects of regarded surfactant flooding on mechanisms that are responsible for microscopic and sweep efficiencies, i.e. wettability and IFT.The results show that in the studied carbonate reservoir, the wettability changes from oil-wet to the behaviour that the reservoir has at its early life, i.e. water-wet. Further, this surfactant decrease IFT that leads RF to increase. This study indicates that temperature increase, which acts on molecular kinetic, decline the RF. Moreover, the oil RF can be increased by this surfactant type up to 9% rather than water flooding for such reservoir. Finally, outcomes made it obvious that the effects of influencing parameters together result in an increase for RF.Determination of the effects of surfactant flooding on effective parameters of recovery factor, its limits, and optimal magnitudes, help to enhance recovery factor. The use of surfactants leads to enhance economic efficiency and have an increase interest in related industry and for governments.4TH International Conference On Oil, Gas and Ptrochemical, Tehran Univrsity, Iran
