Abstract:

Demand for water is growing rapidly as populations and industrial activities expand and irrigated agriculture continues to increase. As the groundwater resource is the largest available source of fresh water lying beneath the ground it has become crucial for targeting of groundwater potential zones as well as monitoring and conserving this important resource. In recent years, with attention to over-use of ground water resource, it is more essential to evaluate and mapping new site that has high potential for groundwater resource. Integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) and Weighed Index Overlay Model (WIOM) is integrated in this paper to evaluation ground water resource in a semi arid region, around an anti cline in SW Iran. To this aim, a database consists of litho logy, slop, elevation, drainage, fault and joint is generated. Potential zone for ground resource water is evaluated by using the algorithm of the Weighed Index Overlay Model in GIS. Potential map can be very useful in the water monitoring in the arid region
