Abstract:

The present research is an attempt to find out whether there is any relationship between emotional intelligence and vocabulary test formats(Multiple-Choice, Fill in the Blanks, Matching, Cloze Test items). 60 students enrolled at pre-university at Galedar a town in Fars Provincereceived two sets of tests, including emotional intelligence (Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory in Persian) and vocabulary tests (4 lessons ofpre-university Book 1). Bar-On’s EQ test contained 133 items; and vocabulary test included four parts: mu tiple-choice (10 tests), fill in theblanks (10 tests), matching (10 tests), and cloze tests were 10 tests. Then EQ and vocabulary test formats were compared separately –using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, Regression analysis, and T-test. It was found that there was no significant relationship between (EQ and Four vocabulary formats),(EQ and Total vocabulary test formats)in male and female groups altogether except a negatively significant relationship between EQ and Cloze test format and EQ and Total vocabulary test formats in male group separately in vocabulary. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between students’ gender and their performance on vocabulary test formats except for Fill in the Blank in which gender had a role and boys outperformed girls.
