In this paper an effective metaheuristic algorithm inspiredby trees competition for acquiring light and foods isproposed. Diversification and intensification phases andtheir tradeoff are detailed in the paper. Also, the proposedapproach is verified by using some of benchmark functionscommonly used in this research area. To assistance theTGA s efficiency, some of well-known optimizationalgorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and ParticleSwarm Optimization (PSO) are employed. TGA and thesementioned algorithms are compared in some of usedmathematical benchmark in this area. Finally, the obtainedresults show that the TGA have a good reaction for solvingoptimization problems.
