Abstract:

We design a tree-structured power distribution networkconsidering optimal cable sizing. A mixed-integerprogramming model is formulated to minimize the total costin the network. The aim is to determine the optimal sizes ofcables so that the location-allocation cost is minimized.Distribution lines in power network must be designed basedon maximum allowable electrical flow in cables, allowablelength of cables, maximum allowable voltage drops andbalance of load. We use information based on relationshipamong rates of electrical flow and cables sizes consideringvoltage drops and length restrictions. We apply minimumspanning tree technique to creation a network withminimum number of arcs and no closed loop such as all thenodes covered. A case study in Tehran power distributioncompany in Iran is conducted to illustrate the validity ofproposed model.
