Abstract:
Oil/water (O/W) emulsion is daily produced and one of the main environmental pollutants that difficult to be treated effectively. Polymeric ultrafiltration membrane is one of reliable processes for the treatment of O/W emulsion, yet stillhindered by membrane fouling. In this study, two types of AC/TiO2 dynamic membranes (i.e. self-forming dynamic membrane and pre-coated dynamic membrane) were prepared to mitigate the fouling of support polymeric membrane tothe treatment of oily wastewater. Flux recovery rate of these membranes was evaluated in order to investigate antifouling performance of AC/TiO2 composite dynamic membranes. Synthesis of AC/TiO2 confirmed by FTIR. Polymeric membranealone and AC/TiO2 composite dynamic membrane were characterized by contact angle and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performance results of these membranes showed that use of the pre-coated dynamic membrane reduced the fouling of support membrane by increase of flux recovery rate to %1.19. In contrast the self-forming dynamic membraneaggravated support membrane fouling. Our result suggests that pre-coated AC/TiO2 dynamic membrane can be a promising technology to reduce the fouling of polymeric membrane and enhance membrane cleaning efficiency in the treatment ofoily wastewater
