Abstract:
Cyanide (CN) is a toxic species that is found predominantly in industrial effluents generated by metallurgical operations. Cyanide’s strong affinity for metals makes it favorable as an agent metal finishing and treatment and as lixivant for metal leaching , particularly gold and silver . For over 100 years, cyanide has been the leach reagent of choice for the extraction of precious metals. With rapid growth in vehicle manufacture, ornamental work, utensil production , metallic material usage etc the number of mental of metal plating shops are rising steeply lead to the disposal of cyanide complexes to environment . Increasingly stringent environmental regulations have created much interest in a wide variety of methods to destroy residual cyanide. Biological degradation of cyanide has often been offered as a potentially inexpensive, environmentally friendly alternative to conventional processes . In this paper a brief discussion of the various processes of cyanide destruction has been done with empathizes to biological treatment.
