Abstract:
The present study analyzes symmetry in Mirror and The Arrival of the Bee Box by Sylvia Plath. Symmetry as a rhetorical device is used to persuade charmingly their audience to believe in what they desired. Symmetry has powers to harmonize and interlink parts of a prose or poeticwork. The paper attempts to investigate: first, to what extent a modernist like Plath utilizes the potentials of this traditional device; second, what kind of ideological significance this rhetorical device accords to Plath s themes; and third, how her modernist aversions from traditionalpoeticization influences her use of symmetry. Answers to these points comprise the main argument of the study.
