Abstract:

This paper aims to investigate cyclic performance of circular hollow section (CHS) T joints. This investigation consists of the effect of welding process on buckling of chord surface in compression and plastic failure in tension. Welding process may affect performance of CHS joints by residual stresses and residual deformations. For this purpose, finite element method was carried out by using Abaqus software and SAC protocol was considered to investigate plastic failure and buckling behavior of CHS T joints. In this investigation, behavior of various joints with three different β factors were evaluated and for welding process, death and birth element method was carried out. Results show that welding process may increase plastic failure significantly and chord ovalization is the most common buckling mode in compression
