Abstract:
To increase the penetration of renewable energy sources and improve the reliability of grid, a proper energy storage is required. In this context, there is a growing concern about the use of energy storage for overcoming the intermittency of renewable energy sources as well as in demand side management. In order to accomplish grid synchronization of energy storage, proper power conditioning devices are required. This paper presents the battery energy storage system for various applications such as myriad of beneficial services and cost savings to the electric grid output and power smoothing of renewable energy sources. The system consists of power conversion units connected in parallel, transformer, switchgear and batteries stacked in parallel or serial.
