Abstract:

Among all airline sources, highest operational cost assigns to the fuel consumption. The fuel supplies from nonrenewable energy sources including fossil fuels. Releasing carbon dioxide (CO2) from fossil fuels has damaging effects on theenvironment. Therefore, the use of fossil fuels is problematic for environment and economics. These challenges have led air transport industry to become greener. Meeting the needs of passengers is the main activity in this industry. This studyintroduces some measurements such as cruise flight time and day of flying as service level for passengers. We introduce total energy consumption (TEC) and passenger service level (PSL) as two objectives that they are conflict with each other. Cruise speed control is tool for balancing both TEC and PSL. Low speed of aircraft will improve TEC and decrease PSL, and viceversa. We propose a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model (MINLP) to survey TEC and PSL. The purpose of this study is to explore these objectives with integrating schedule design, aircraft assignment and path assignment. We useaugmented ε-constraint method to solve the problem. We present a case study to examine the model. The results were compared with published schedule. In the worst case, TEC and PSL improved 4.6 % and 252 compared with publishedschedule, respectively. In the best case, they improved 55% and 33% compared with published schedule, respectively. Also, obtained results were compared with previous study.
