Abstract:

A new activated carbon was prepared by chemical activation with H3PO4 using pomegranate shell, and appliedfor removal of lead from water. The properties of the new sorbent were investigated by SEM analysis. Theadsorption performances (pH, contact time, temperature, dose of sorbent, ionic strength, anddesorption) of the sorbent were studied. The adsorption isotherms and probable mechanism have also beenexplained.The experiments showed that the adsorption process was quick and the equilibrium attained within 30 min.Evaluation using Langmuir Freundlich gave sorption capacity 2.85 mg g-1. lead uptake by new adsorbent was bestdescribed by pseudo-second order model. Temperature did not have effect on adsorption of lead with the new sorbent.
