Abstract:
The bandal-like structure is a combination of a permeable and impermeable groin which is usually used in Indian Sub-Continents for riverbank protection and improvement of navigation conditions in alluvial rivers. In this paper, the effect of the submergence of bandal-like structure on the maximum scour depth around it, ina 90 degree bend is investigated. 12 experimental tests were carried out on three different submergence ratios (2.15, 1.65 and 1.16) and four different Froude numbers (0.218, 0.235, 0.261, 0.287). The results demonstrated that as the submergence ratio increases, the maximum scour depth around the bandal-like structure also increases.
