Abstract:

In this paper, a novel application of current source inverter (CSI) is presented to compensate the load voltage harmonics and limit the fault currents. Due to the use of the reactor with a large inductance in the dc side, the structure of the CSI is hesitantly fault current limiter (FCL). Whereas CSI based active power filters are generally connected in parallel with the power system and by injection of proper current, the aim of elimination of current harmonics and reactive power compensation and power quality improvement is achieved. In this paper this structure is connected in series with the power grid by series transformers which are called isolating transformers and by injection of proportional voltage, the mitigation and compensation of load voltage harmonics is considered. The proposed method can be used in low voltage power systems like radial distribution networks where the voltage of the grid is not proportional sinusoidal and due to the length of the feeder, the fault is occurred continuously. The simulation results are presented in different modes of operations of the circuit.
