Abstract:
World class manufacturing (WCM) includes a series of activities and modes of make in the world-
wide scale. If WCM is administered appropriately, for the organization, there will be increase in
competitiveness, in production flexibility, in customers’ satisfaction, in production competitive
capability, in the dynamism of the organization, and in the attraction and support of the best
employees. In designing or employing WCM system, what that should be identified first is the current
situation of WCM in the company. Then accordingly, it is possible to design a program to pass on to a
desirable situation. In this article, a model is introduced, titled as the model of world class
manufacturing maturity for car manufacturing industry. Identifying the current position and function
of WCM in the company and comparing it with the desirable situation, it presents a program to start
the process of improvement and to reach the desirable situation. This model, from an inductive point
of view, first, adds together the WCM maturity in subordinate units of a car manufacturing company
to extract the WCM of the company itself. Then, it adds together the WCM maturity of these car
companies to calculate the WCM of the industry. In this model, the companies of an industry will be
analyzed based on four factors: world class sourcing, world class operation, world class delivery and
world class strategic planning. Here, only the conceptual model will be analyzed.
