Abstract:
Presentwork deals with the adsorption of 2,4-Dichlorophenol(DCP)on mesoporous MCM-41 material. The effect of surfactant template in MCM-41 on the removal of DCP was investigated. The comparison of adsorption of DCP on uncalcined MCM-41,contained surfactant (noted as CTABMCM- 41) and calcined MCM-41,without surfactant (noted as MCM-41) was investigated. It was found that CTAB-MCM-41 shows significant adsorption for DCP as compared to MCM-41, this may be because of the hydrophobicity created by surfactant template in the CTAB-MCM-41. The structural order and textural properties of the mesoporous materials were studied by XRD, and nitrogen adsorption. The presence of functional groups was confirmed by FTIR analyses. Adsorption isotherms and kinetics of 2,4- Dichlorophenol onto CTAB-MCM-41 were determined. Adsorption isotherm models, Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin were used to simulate the equilibrium data of DCP. The equilibrium data were best represented by the Langmuir isotherm. The effect of various parameters on adsorption processes is also examined.
