Abstract:

Chitosan (CS) is modified with Fe 3O4 nanocomposite through in situ co-precipitatin of Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions via NH4OH, in an aqueous solution. This resultes in the formation of magneitc Fe3O4/CS NPs. Adsorption of Cu2+ ions on the surface of the latter is followed by reduction of Cu2+ via NaBH NaBH4. Nanoparticle Fe3O4/CS-Cu NPs is used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of diaryl ethers by the cross-coupling reaction of various substituted aryl halides with phenols. This catalyst avoids using any type of expensive ligand and can be recovered from the reaction mixture by using a simple magnet. Moreover, it can be reused three times without losing its catalytic activity.
