Abstract:
Dc transmission system has several advantages over AC transmission systems. Because of low impedance in DC Networks, short-circuit fault current in dc networks is higher and faster in compare of AC systems and make grater damages to system’s equipment. So design and implement a HVDC Circuit Breaker plays a crucial rule in fault clearing with lowest damages to system’s equipment. Hybrid HVDC Circuit Breaker is one of the most reliable devices in DC Networks that because of recent developments in IGBT Characteristics in case of Voltage and Current and Speed capabilities, its design is developed. In this paper, one 20kV Hybrid HVDC Circuit Breaker based on recent development at power IGBTs has been designed and successfully tested in simulation environment and IGBT’s main specifications have been studied based on system requirements in 20kV DC test system. Besides because Ultra-Fast Switch is a crucial part at Hybrid HVDC Circuit Breaker, one Ultra-Fast Switch has been successfully designed and tested at laboratory as well.
