Abstract:

The solution of steady and unsteady heat transfer problem of oblique stagnation-point flow on an isothermal circular cylinder have been obtained by the similarity method. The fluid at rest and uniform temperature T∞ around the cylinder starts flowing toward it at strength k , while its wall temperature rises to Tw at t=0, simultaneously. Governing equations in the boundary layer induced by axisymmetrically impinging flow on the constant-temperature cylinder at any arbitrary obliqueness angle α, have been reduced to ODEs using similarity transformation and have been solved numerically. Considering a sample case of incompressible flow with Re=0.1,1,10 and Pr=0.7, theresults of Nusselt number and temperature distribution have been obtained for different values of time and α. At initial instants, the Nusselt number, regardless of α svalue, has large values. As the time passes, the value of Nusselt number reduces intensely within a short period of time and from then it represents a moderate reductionrate.
