Abstract:

Global climate change is one of the most significant challenges in the world. Carbon dioxide and methane are well-known as the most important greenhouse gases in the atmosphere resulting in world global climate change. Among various processes which could be employed for these gases separation from atmosphere, adsorption using advanced porous materials such as MOF has gained many attention for this purpose. So, in this paper the capability of four Zeolitic imidazolate framwork structures, as a subset of metal organic framework materials,ZIF-8, ZIF-90, ZIF-95 and ZIF-100, have been examined for capturing methane and CO2. Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulation has been used to predict pure methane and carbon dioxide uptakes in the ZIF structures. The obtained results present that ZIF materials could be introduced as the most promising candidates for CH4 and CO2 separation in comparison with other conventional adsorbents such as Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Covalent-Organic Frameworks (COFs) materials.
