Abstract:

Despite promising improvements in the treatment of cancer, the mortality rate of this malignancy remains high. Among various types of cancer, gastric and breast cancers are ranked at top of mortalityrate. Within last 5 years, in our laboratory, we have focused on the evaluation of the possible association between the miRs and respective target genes involved in progress and onset of both gastric and breast cancers. Using vast computational analyses more than 5 dozens of miRs were identified to be deregulated in cancer cells. Therefore at the first step, their expressions were evaluated in breast and stomach tissues from the patients suffering breast or gastric cancers respectively. At the moment transcript levels of the predicted target genes were also compared in the same samples with normalindividuals. In the other set of experiments, we defined the importance of SNPs present in seeding regions of target genes for predicted miRs. Interesting data were obtained for the association of thoseSNPs with the onset/stages of breast or gastric cancer as verified by analysis of the blood-derived genomes of the patients vs control samples
