Abstract:
different amount of gelatin (2, 5, 8 wt%) added to the liquid phase of tetracalcium phosphate cement (TTCP) to study the effect of gelatin on hydrolysis reaction and setting time of this group of calcium phosphate cements (CPCs). Gillmore needle, XRD, SEM, DSC, and UV-visible tests used for characterization. XRD, SEM, and DSC results were in good agreement and showed gelatin addition has a constructive effect on hydrolysis reaction of TTCP and accelerate precipitation of hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocrystals. The initial and final setting time of TTCP decreased for 65 and 50 percent in the cement containing 8wt% gelatin respectively. UV-visible showed gelatin does not fate completely after immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) and can improve cell behavior properties of the cements even after 14 days.
