Abstract:

Desalination or separation of gas - liquid is among the other benefits of hydrate. For example, the formation of hydrate is a method of obtaining fresh water from salty water. By injecting cold air in seawater, hydrate crystals are formed. After separation and heating, fresh water is obtained. Due to its high cost, this method has not found industrial application yet. Another application of it is CO2 separation gas mixtures obtained from combustion. Another process called hydrate Base gas separation (HBGS) is related to Tetra Hydro Furan (THF), which is used as a propellant in hydrate formation. THF lowers hydrate formation equilibrium pressure and extends the hydrate stability zone. HBGS process makes it possible to recycle 99% mole CO2 from combustion gases at room temperature of K283-273.
