Abstract:
Breast cancer is most common cancer in women and is the second leading causeof cancer deaths in women after lung cancer. Imaging modalities play animportant role in the clinical management of cancer, including screening, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapy monitoring. The imaging of breastcancer has undergone significant progression in recent years. Photoacoustic(PA) imaging or optoacoustic imaging is a new biomedical imaging modalitybased on the use of laser-generated ultrasound that has emerged over the lastdecade. It is a hybrid modality, combining the high-contrast and spectroscopic-basedspecificity of optical imaging with the high spatial resolution of ultrasoundimaging. the greatest strength of PA imaging is its ability to gather functionaland molecular information in real-time, with a high spatial resolution, atclinically relevant depths, and in the absence of ionizing radiation.because Photoacoustic imaging have many advantage and great potential forbreast imaging so the aim of this study is review on physical aspect of PAimaging and recent application of PA imaging in detection of breast cancer.
