Abstract:

Mammography is the standard of care for the detection of breast cancer inasymptomatic women. It is effective in reducing breast cancer mortality rates innumerous studies. Mammography is X-ray imaging of the breasts designed todetect tumours or other abnormalities. Conventional mammography is ascreening procedure constrained by low specificity in the detection of breastcancer. Improvements over the last decade in the quality of performance and thereporting of mammography studies are the most important advances in breastimaging. one of the most important developing is digital mammography. Fullfielddigital mammography (FFDM) was approved by the Food and DrugAdministration in 2000. Full field digital mammography systems offer severaladvantages over film-based systems for breast screening. These include lowerdose, improved sensitivity for dense breasts, increased dynamic range,computer-aided detection/diagnosis, softcopy review, digital archiving,telemedicine, tomosynthesis, 3-D visualization techniques and reduction inbreast compression pressure.because Mammography is the primary imaging modality for breast cancerscreening and diagnosis so the aim of this study is overview on physicalprinciple , advantage, disadvantage and new development in digital andconventional mammography system.
