Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of this research was to determine the effect of mindfulness on variables such as self efficacy, perceived stress and life orientation on women suffering from breast cancer with mastectomy compared to healthy women by using Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R, scheier, carver & bridges, 1994,Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Sheldon Cohen, 1983) and Self efficacy (Schwarzer, 1992). For this in a qualitative study 40 women were chosen. Based on data obtained from available samples, the patients were divided into two groups of experiment (20 people ) and control (20 people) randomly. Methods & Materials: The sampling technique was available and for data collection we used Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R, scheier, carver & bridges, 1994,Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Sheldon Cohen, Kamarck, Mermelstein, 1983) and Self efficacy (Schwarzer, 1992).Covariance method was used to analyze the data. Results: The result showed that mindfulness can have a beneficial effect on variables which were mentioned above in women suffering from breast cancer. There were significance differences in both life orientation and perceived stress variables. There was no significant difference in self efficacy variable, but there was a positive difference shown in experimental group compared to the control group.Discussion: The self efficacy variable did not have any significant difference. This is a subject that future researchers should take into account and do more research about it. This may be due to the fact that self efficacy in people happens at both cognitive and social stage and the interaction between these two. Considering the significant difference in life orientation we can conclude that a change in the cognitive stage had took place.
