A series of monoazo disperse dyes based on N-phenyl- 2, 2'- iminodiethanol were synthesized using p-substituted anilines as diazo components. These dyes have been characterized by melting points, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopic methods. The effect of pH variation and solvents' polarity on the absorption spectra (on the basis of different spectroscopic polarity parameter ^*) were examined and a meaningful correlation observed. Also, the effects of different substituents with electronwithdrawing and electron-donating groups at their p-position of synthesized dyes were investigated.
