The Impact of Knowledge Management of GIS Systems on the Performance of Electricity Distribution Companies

Development of smart grid and preparation for its infrastructure is at the agenda of most developed and developing countries in the world. Optimal management on operation and network control and its planning, monitoring, maintenance, maximum operation and increasing the useful life of network equipment, reduction of technical and non-technical losses, facilitating the implementation of the process of energy market, paving the ground for maximum privatization of power industry and upgrading the current level of reliability are of the objectives of the development of smart grid and its infrastructure. The development of advanced automation system with mechanization and link with GIS software and network management are powerful tools for analysis, decision making and reporting required parameters in the power industry in distribution sector. This paper examines the role of GIS system knowledge and its management in the operation, engineering, customer care sectors necessary software requirements for the optimized operation and control of the grid are investigated.
