Abstract:

Introduction : Olive due to containing oleic acid and polyphenolic compounds, as a functional food against many chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular complications, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases can have preventive, restoration or treatment effects that doesn t have many problems and side effects of chemical drugs. Materials and Methods: In this study, the effect of Iranian and European Olive polyphenolic extracts compared to anticancer drug cytarabine on the MCF7 was evaluated. Assessment of the cell death and gene expression in apoptotic pathway has been done by MTT assay and Real-time PCR. Results: The results show the good capabilities of Olive polyphenolic extract on apoptosis induction. Bax and bcl2 genes expression showed a significant change. Discussion and conclusion: Our results showed that the polyphenolic extract oil compared to the drug has a significant effect on the growth of cancer cells and apoptosis induction. Side effects of chemotherapy drugs is one of the serious challenges in the treatment and control of tumor development in cancers particularly breast cancer, so olive and its extracts can be used as a adjuvant in the treatment and reducing side effects of chemotherapy drugs.
