Abstract:

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer mortality in women worldwide. Elderly individuals make up a large part of the breast cancer population. Gail model can estimate the risk of breast cancer. Because of postmenopausal women are most at-risk population for breast cancer, so this study was conducted with the aim of assess the risk of breast cancer using the Gail model in postmenopausal women. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study on 445 postmenopausal women by systematic sampling was conducted in Rasht during 2015. Data collected by questionnaires of Individual–Social information and Gail model (8 item). Questionnaires completed from women eligible by phone after obtaining consent. Mann-Whithney U and Kruskal Wallis and Spearman Correlation were used in the evaluation of the averages and SPSS 22 software was used for the analysis. Results: The mean of age of women was 58.28±7.53 years. The risk of breast cancer in the next five years (5R) was 1.28±1.01% and the risk of breast cancer during the whole life (LTR) was found to be 6.82±1.97%. 13.9% of women are high risk. Results showed that there are significant relationship between the risk of breast cancer in With age of menopause, age of marriage, age at first live birth (p<0.05). Conclusions: Results showed postmenopausal women are high risk. By identifying People at risk of breast cancer, can be With Screening and timely referral of people took an important step in reducing mortality.
