Abstract:

Introduction: Breast cancer in men is rare and the incidence of that varies in the worldwide. Incidence ratio between female to male in all over the world is 122:1. There are many similarities with women s breast cancer, but some important differences are recognized as well. The purpose of this study is to assess some information about this uncommon malignancy. Material and Method: Because of the rarity of this disease, the article s data revision based on the search results of performed studies regarding about male breast cancer obtained from internet database. We systematically searched PubMed, Up to Date, MEDLINE, Medscape and case reports which focused on thisassociation. Results: The risk of male breast cancer is parallel to an increased lifelong exposure to estrogen. BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation, Klinefelter syndrome (XXY),undescended testes, a family history of female breast cancer and liver pathology are the other important risk factors. The clinical features are the same of the females and invasive ductal carcinoma is the most pathological form. There is not any differences between staging or staging workup for this group. Total mastectomy is the preferred surgery and the use of radiotherapy or systemic therapy such as chemotherapy or hormonal therapy follows the guidelines as being used for postmenopausal women. Conclusion: According to the results, stage for stage, outcome after treatment for men is the same for women, although there are some evidences about more advanced presentation for male breast cancer than do women, because the diagnosis of this cancer in this group is delayed and screening tools are not used.
