Abstract:
Background: Nowadays, Breast Cancer is to most prevalent cancer disease worldwide. This disease, because of the high prevalence, imposes a great deal of financial impact on the health system. However, using some dietary supplement such as coenzyme Q10, beside pharmacotherapy, could accelerate the treatment process to enhance the health status. Methods: This study was conducted to determine the effect of coenzyme Q10 (co Q10) on treatment of breast cancer, and teased out by scrutinizing scientificsources and papers in authentic journals and databases such as scholar.google.com, pubmed.com, sciencedirect.com and Iranian website including sid.ir. Papers published between 1995 and 2015 were collected and reviewed. Results: Patients with Breast cancer who are under treatment by Tamoxifen (TAM) suffer from sever oxidative stress as the side effects of this medicine. It has been indicated that intake of co Q10 and riboflavin, niacin at the same time result in normalization of altered levels of SGOT, SGPT, Uric Acid, Lipoprotein Lipase and LCAT, that occur because of using TAM. Although, supplementation with 300 mg co Q10/day for 24 weeks, do not alleviate thefatigue caused by chemotherapy. Conclusions: Some studies has been suggested some promising effects of taking co Q10. Nonetheless, since taking antioxidant supplements during cancer treatment is controversial, using this supplement, particularly in combination with other dietary supplements, demand for further clinical studies.
