Abstract:

In the present study, the unsteady flow of blood subjected to externally-imposed periodic body acceleration through an artery in the presence of multi stenoses is studied. An appropriate shape of the time dependent multi stenoses which are overlapped in the realm of the formation of arterial narrowing is constructed mathematically. A mathematical model is developed by treating blood as a non-Newtonian fluid characterized by the Cross model incorporating the shear-thinning characteristics of the streaming blood. Numerical scheme has been used to solve the unsteady nonlinear Navier-stokes equations in cylindrical coordinate's system governing flow assuming axial symmetry under laminar flow condition so that the problem effectively becomes two-dimensional. Finite difference technique was used to investigate the effects of parameters such as pulsatility, and the body acceleration on the velocity components, resistance to flow, the rate of flow, and the wall shear stress profiles.
