Abstract:
Lead is one of the most sustainable heavy metals which has harmful effects on tissues such as bone. In this study was investigated the effects of dietary lead acetate II on histology of femur in rat. Ten male wistar rats were divided randomly into two groups. The control group were fed with distilled water and libitum food in two months while the test group received distilled water containing the dose of 50 ppm lead acetate II and libitum food. This dose is five time more than dose of world health organization. Then the rats were killed and were cut the ends of the femur bone and were stained by Alizarin Red. Finally, were studied bone density and mineralization and osteoblasts density. Lead acetate II with a dose of 50 ppm was reduced bone density and bone mineralization. Also, this dose can be reduced osteoblastic density. It seems that the ac-cumulation of lead acetate II has toxic effects on bone and it has caused bone destruction. With respect to the harmful effects of lead on bone, conservation of water resources and underground aquifers is a priority
