Abstract:

Ephemeroptera is the most abundant and widespread insect order in the benthic macroinvertebrate com-munities in running water ecosystems. This group includes delicate insects with elongated body, thin legs and membranous wings. The front wings are much larger than the rear. Body length of less than 12mm.Their life span in adult form is very short and does not exceed a maximum of a few days. Ephemeroptera has also a great importance in studies of determining habitat and water qualities of running waters. Many indicator taxa are included in Ephemerobtera, and their usage in biomonitoring of streams and rivers is very common and effective. The aim of the current study is to determine the fauna of Ephemeroptera in some selected rivers in Mazandaran and Golestan provinces. Limited sampling was carried out from river and streams in some rivers in Mazandaran and Golestan provinces in summer 2016. Samples were preserved in 80% ethyl alcohol. Our identification, until now, records the occurrence of two abundant species belonging to 2 gender; Rithrogena semicolorata and Heptagenia lateralis, from Iran
