Abstract:

Wastewater is a source for irrigation. Wastewater contains nutrients and may improve plant growth. Salts and heavy metals in wastewater can cause salinity and poisoning in plants. At germination stage, salinity reduces seed vigor. The goal of the experiment was to determine wheat seed vigor under refined and non-refined wastewater application and drought condition. A laboratory experiment was conducted at Physiology Laboratory, College of Agricultural Science and Engineering, Razi University in 2014. Iso-osmotic potentials of -0.275, -0.4 and -0.47 MPa (equal with 100% refined wastewater, 50% refined wastewater + 50% non- refined wastewater and 100% non- refined wastewater, respectively) of polyethylene glycol and wastewater made the treatments. Distilled water was used as a control. Wastewater samples were collected from Kermanshah refinery. Results showed that isoosmotic potentials of PEG and wastewater had no significant effect on radicle weight, caulicle weight, seed vigor based on weight and seedling weight. Probably wheat seedling weight and seed vigor is tolerant to the studied osmotic levels. Severer osmotic potentials than that of the experiment is suggested for the next experiment
