Abstract:

The aim of this research work is to investigate the self-healing behavior in the sandwich structures bycompression test. Firstly, epoxy resin was capsulated through interfacial polymerization by urea-formaldehyde shell. Inthe second step, hollow microcapsules were fabricated and then filled through vacuum system by triethylenetetramine(TETA) hardener. Then epoxy and hardner microcapsules with ratio of 10:1 were dispersed in epoxy resin. In thefollowing, the sandwich structure was fabricated by this prepared epoxy resin. In the next step, this sample wasdamaged by drop down damage. After healing the sandwich structure, compression test was done. The obtained resultsshowed that compression properties of fabricated sandwich structures were recovered approximately 70% afterpassing 3 days.
