خلاصه مقاله:
Introduction & Aim: Breast cancer is a commonly worldwide cancer in woman. Chemotherapy is one of the main treatments for breast cancer and two or more cytotoxic drugs are used. Conventional chemotherapy is limited by side effects like normal tissue damage, hair loss, vomiting and nausea. Bromelain is a natural agent with anti growth-inhibitory effect on cancer cells. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anticancer effect of bromelain on human breast cancer (MCF7). Methods: Breast cancer cells, MCF7, were incubated with different concentration of bromelain for 24 hours. MTT assay was used to determine the growth inhibitory effect of bromelain. Clonogenic assay were performed to evaluate cell survival. Cells were incubated in the or not with IC50 concentration of 65 g/ml of bromelain for 24 hours. The numbers of colonies were counted after 14 TD of incubation. Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn’s test were used to evaluate the statistically differences between the experimental and the control groups. Results: Bromelain decreased the growth of MCF7 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. It reduced the number and size of colonies with respect to the control incubated cells in the absence of bromelain during 14 days incubation (P˂0.05). The value of 81% and 52.5 were calculated as PE and SF value respectively. Conclusion: These results showed bromelain reduced growth, proliferation and colony formation of MCF7 cells. More investigations are essential to evaluate the anticancer efficacy of bromelain on different human cancer cell lines.
